Phu Quoc’s tourism industry is heading into a new growth phase as Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a new airline under Sun Group, has received official investment approval from the Vietnamese government. The airline promises to enhance both domestic and international connectivity to Vietnam’s most famous island.

A new airline for the Pearl Island

On May 20, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam signed Decision No. 979/QĐ-TTg, officially approving the investment project for Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA), operated by Sun Phu Quoc Aviation Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Sun Group.

SPA will operate a combined model of commercial and charter flights, focusing on connecting key domestic and international destinations — especially beach resorts and tourism centers.

Its core mission: bring international tourists closer to Phu Quoc and make it easier for Vietnamese travelers to reach the island.

The airline plans to expand to 31 aircraft by 2030, with a total investment of VND 2,500 billion (approx. USD 98.81 million). Commercial flights are expected to begin in Q4/2025.

Unlocking tourism growth in Phu Quoc

The introduction of Sun PhuQuoc Airways marks a key milestone for Phu Quoc’s development, helping ease airport congestion and broaden air connectivity.

More flight options will help increase tourist arrivals to Phu Quoc — an island that has been named the second most beautiful island in the world, just after the Maldives.

Part of Sun Group’s closed-loop travel ecosystem

Alongside SPA, Sun Group also operates Sun Air, a luxury airline offering private jet services for elite travelers. With SPA’s entry, Sun Group now offers a complete aviation ecosystem, catering to both high-end and mainstream tourism markets.
